The farm is the backbone of the
business.
Not only does it provide fresh produce for
the farm shop, we also supply quality produce which ends up in Waitrose's
and other quality outlets. To do this we comply with 'LEAF' regulations which
looks at the relationship between wildlife and farming.
We grow Jerusalem Artichokes and
sell them as game cover seed throughout the country.
It is the farms policy to encourage
wildlife wherever possible and to farm sympathetically. This means we have
to consider whether or not a certain process would be disturbing wildlife.
Where we can we work around wildlife and spray only where and when
necessary.
With the fishing lakes within the farm,
this helps create a haven for wildlife.
In the summer of 2007 we had 6 breeding
pairs of birds from the 'at risk' category according to the RSPB. One
pair was extremely rare.
In addition we had many more common birds
making the farm their home, including Lapwings and Cuckoos.
